David Bicknell - Guest Judge 2009

David Bicknell graduated from Roseworthy College in 1993 with the prize
for wine tasting. In November 1992, he arrived at the De Bortoli winery in the
Yarra Valley. Vintages in Griffith, Burgundy, Alsace and Beaujolais followed.
David joined Oakridge Vineyard in the Yarra Valley in June 2002. At the Len
Evans Tutorial in 2005, David was unanimously chosen as dux. David was a
co-founder of the Victorian Pinot Noir Workshop.

Tom Stevenson - International Judge 2008

Tom, the author of Champagne (Sotheby’s Publication 1986), has
specialised in Champagne for more than a quarter of a century. His Wine
Report is an annual roundup on wine around the world. Tom contributes the
sections on Alsace and Champagne while selected experts write up regions or
countries, with Huon Hooke the contributing editor on Australia.
The Society was very fortunate to secure Tom's participation in the 2008
Show.

Ben Edwards - Guest Judge 2008

Ben is a Co-President of Sommeliers Australia, and President of the
Victorian Chapter. He is presently working with James Halliday on the
Australian Wine Companion. Ben was previously a member of
the Tasmanian Wine Show judging panel in 2006.

John Belsham - International Judge 2007
Winemaker, industry consultant, judge and enthusiast. Beginning his career
aged 19, with five vintages in France as an apprentice winemaker, John learned
the essential principals of patience, quality, hygiene and attention to detail.
Returning to New Zealand, John began at Nobilo Vintners, progressing to Sole
Charge Winemaker at Matua Valley Wines, then Hunters Wines. In 1992 he
established his own label, Foxes Island Wines, producing small releases of
exquisite, complex Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, sourced
from premium fruit in Marlborough and from his estate vineyard in the Awatere
Valley, Marlborough.
John is Owner and Winemaker at Foxes Island Wines. He is Panel Chair for
Cuisine magazine’s wine reviews and a wine consultant to Air New Zealand for
in-flight service and wine education for airline staff. John is a Senior judge
and is past chairman of judges of the Air New Zealand National Wine Competition.
