The Tasmanian Wines Show uses just a single panel, of three judges plus
associate judge(s). James Halliday, as the 'working' panel chairman, tastes
every wine each year - along with Huon Hooke, and the third and associate
judges. This has allowed both James and Huon to build up an awesome knowledge
and understanding of Tasmanian wines, as well as convey it to the world through
their writings.
By contrast the capital city wine shows have three or four panels, each with
a panel chairman, and the overall chairman doesn't judge any classes; also, no
one judge tastes more than a fraction of the wines.
